These utilities provide a Windows system administrator with several essential functions that are particularly useful in logon scripts.
filever.exe allows a batch file to perform version checking on a Win32 executable file, provided it contains version information. For example, you can check if at least VBScript 5.6 (build 6914) is installed.
minwin.exe simply minimizes the topmost window on the screen. If you want your logon script command window to minimize itself, you can use this program.
nupp.exe lets you temporarily map a drive letter, do some things, then restore the mapping to its previous value.
osver.exe allows a batch file to perform operating system platform checking. It can differentiate between Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. For NT-based systems, it can also return the system's service pack level and role (e.g. workstation, server, or domain controller).
rasconns.exe allows a batch file to determine if one or more RAS connections are active, and can allow a logon script to see if the logon is occurring over a dial-in connection.
winmsg.exe displays a 'system modal' dialog box containing a particular title bar and message. Useful in a batch file to display a 'show stopper' error message.
