Textract allows users to capture text from Windows 98/95/NT/2000 screens under control of another program. Textract consists of a DLL and an EXE, which can be integrated into another product or software solution. The EXE's command-line interface allows you to capture text using Perl scripts, batch files, installation scripts, and any other utility that can execute programs. The DLL (dynamic link library) offers a simple API and can be used with your own programs. Both the EXE and the DLL can recognize text from screens or bitmap files and store the results in memory or in files in plain text, RTF, and proprietary binary and verbose text formats.
This update features a text recognition engine that includes capturing underlined text (such as Web/email addresses), support for small serif fonts (such as Times 8 or MS Serif 8), and capturing mixed font sizes, styles, and colors from the same line. Provides international support for accented characters (umlauts) and a new flag dfCharColor for supporting different colored characters. Significantly improved is the capture of DOS console fonts (Terminal, Lucida) and an option is added to capture text if ClearType font smoothing method is turned on in Windows XP.
