The three tools previously released to resolve issues related to the Slammer virus--SQL Server 2000 SQL Scan, SQL Check, and SQL Critical Update--have been consolidated into a single download, the SQL Critical Update Kit. This download also includes an SMS deployment tool and the Servpriv.exe utility.

SQL Scan will scan individual computers, Windows domains, or a range of IP addresses for instances of SQL Server 2000 and MSDE 2000, and identifies instances that may be vulnerable to the Slammer worm on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. SQL Check scans the computer on which it is running for instances of SQL Server 2000 and MSDE 2000 that are vulnerable to the Slammer worm. SQL Critical Update is a hot fix that scans the computer on which it is running for instances of SQL Server 2000 and MSDE 2000 that are vulnerable to the Slammer worm, updating the affected files.
