Optima Suite consists of modules designed to work with the MS SMS that enhance the capabilities of the tool. In addition to metering application usage, the module (OptimaSM) addresses the need for monitoring application-resource usage (CPU, memory, and page faults per second). The module is sensitive to network and system resource usage levels and maintains a low threshold. The module by itself does not directly communicate with any component on the network and relies upon the SMS infrastructure to push the end-of-day-summary results from the local MS Access database repository into a MIF-formatted file. One can slice and dice the information uploaded to the MS SMS SQL database to generate reports that show application-usage trends and resource usage, and derive averages to establish SLAs. In addition, data can be used to audit application usage and for license-management purposes.
